Former Phillies starting pitcher Curt Schilling has been eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame since 2013. However, the onetime ace has continually fallen short each year.
According to Schilling, that fact has a lot more to do with his political views than his performance on the field.
Speaking with TMZ, Schilling said that “scumbag” journalists are keeping him out because of the “character clause.” However, Schilling said they would have no problem voting for him if his views were different.
“If I had said, ‘Lynch Trump,’ I’d be getting in with about 90 percent of the vote this year,” Schilling claimed.
Schilling is no stranger to controversy as of late. In November, he tweeted, then deleted a tweet in which he applauded a shirt promoting the lynching of journalists.
